Essential Workers: Here’s How You Can Get Unemployment
It appears that not only do we not intend to pay many essential workers a living wage, but even during a pandemic which makes a number of “unskilled” jobs now significantly more dangerous, we won’t give them a reasonable bump to compensate them for the risk to their health posed by COVID-19. A risk which is only avoidable if we were to allow these essential workers to stay home.
As I stated in a previous article, in many cases, essential workers are making less money than those on unemployment. It also might appear that employees are helpless to leave, but upon doing some research, it seems there are options for those who want to leave their jobs after all. If your job isn’t paying you fairly, or is putting you at risk, you have good reason to quit.
So, I propose that essential workers who are employed in such low-wage positions as carers, security guards, delivery drivers, and all those at gas stations, fast food restaurants and grocery stores, try something new to get the money you deserve. Go on unemployment.
